WHAT WE DO

Purbeck Candles, launched in 2012 by Phaedra a natural Perfumer whose mission was to create a range of home fragrances using only essential oils. Creating these stunning blends is not simply a business it is a passion. Each Candle & Diffuser is made using their own blends of pure essential oils, each product is hand-poured and packaged in their studio in Dorset. You can also visit our new flag ship store House of Phaedra, Unit 7 Antelope Walk, Dorchester, where stunning lifestyle pieces sit alongside our beautiful natural Home Fragrances. Nothing makes us happier than hearing how much you love our essential oil candles. One of our regular customers was singing the praises of our Spiced Orange candle, and we love knowing it’s part of your cosy moments at home.⁠

Spring might be on the way but we’ll be rushing home from the shop this evening to light our spiced orange blend, pour a little mug of cocoa and take a moment in front of the fire to warm up (if Luna doesn’t mind sharing her spot! 🐾).⁠

Our part-time shop assistant is always ready to greet you at the door, especially if you bring treats! ⁠

You’ll sometimes find our lovely Luna helping Phaedra sniff out your favourite scents, but when she’s off the clock, she’s usually back at the house no doubt up to mischief! ⁠

She loves to start the day with a quick dip in the sea on our morning coastal walk. Once she’s shaken off the salt spray, she’ll be curled up by the fire while we put the kettle on. It’s a dog’s life! 🐾⁠

One of the things Phaedra loves most about our reed diffuser refills is helping you find the perfect vessel. Not just to fill your home with beautiful natural fragrance, but to create a gorgeous feature, too. ⁠

You know, almost anything can become a diffuser - as long as it’s watertight and non-porous with a narrow neck, you’re good to go.⁠

From the beginning, Phaedra knew her home fragrances had to be pure, natural and completely free from any synthetic scents. That’s why every candle, melt and diffuser is handmade using only 100% pure essential oils with absolutely no nasties allowed.⁠ ⁠

Compare a man-made synthetic scent with a true essential oil and you’ll understand why. Phaedra says it’s like the difference between wearing cotton and polyester - one is breathable and comfortable, while the other just isn’t the same.⁠

But it’s more than just scent. Essential oils have real therapeutic benefits too, soothing stress, easing tension, and helping you unwind in those moments you need it most. ⁠

This fascination has been her ‘why’ and the reason it’s only natural for Phaedra to be here, in her very own shop, sharing the candles and fragrances she’s carefully created, all made from the finest essential oils and hand-poured here in Dorset.⁠

⁠Purbeck Candles began in 2011 with one goal: to share her love of beautiful, natural fragrances. She began blending essential oils and soy wax in a quaint cottage overlooking Corfe Castle, selling at local craft fairs. Fourteen years later, here she is, still sharing her passion with you.⁠
